Welcome to Netherfield Gallery Netherfield Gallery is the place where Effie Galletly shows images of her work online, highlighting those pieces inspired by the landscapes and structures of the highlands and islands of Scotland.
"The Hebridean islands strike a powerful chord with me and set in motion ideas that I feel compelled to express"
The work looks like painting. The method of making is entirely like that of a traditional quilt, the appearance not at all. Over the last few years Effie has produced a substantial body of work focused on Scottish landscape. She has a passion for the colour, light and form of the place. In June 2006 her work was exhibited in a show titled Catching the Light, in Bath, Somerset.
As a result of work shown in Morven Gallery, Barvas, Isle of Lewis, writer Eilidh Whiteford in The Hebridean wrote:
‘As a painter would create tone, texture, blend colours with the use of a brush, Effie has cleverly accomplished the same with her use of materials’.
For a record of her background and work already shown please see the Effie Galletly page.
In 2007 Effie's work was on show in July on the Isle of Harris as part of the Harris Arts Fair. Her exhibition ran at the Seallam Visitor Centre, Northton, Leverburgh from 23rd - 27th July. For the month of October Effie's work was on show at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. This overlapped with the Celtic Colour International Festival in Cape Breton.
In June 2009 there was an exhibition of Effie's work titled A Sense of Place at Morven Gallery on the Isle of Lewis. There were also available workshops which ran very successfully. People came from as far away as Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Cumbria, Glasgow and Lancashire. There was even one student from the USA for one day. Details of workshops available are outlined on the Events page of the website.
Effie also took part for the first time in the Kirkcudbright Art and Crafts Trail in Dumfries and Galloway, an Open Studio event at the end of July.
